Gogol Bordello
For the last two years or so I've been
bugging Bob at the Meridian to book this band if they ever toured through
Texas. He at first asked, who?. Then later he's like do you think they'd
have a big draw? I didn't know if they'd get a crowd or not knowing how
screwy this town is when it comes to music or rather going to see live
acts. Still I didn't care. I wanted to have them at the Meridian, good
sound and I have a photo pass no matter what. Luckily D'netta at Meridian
also knew of and loved Gogol Bordello. I was happy as can be when their
name popped up on the calender a couple of months ago. One
of the bands on my list of "most want to photo" and they were
booked at my club. Even better was the realization that I and D'netta
were not alone digging this band here. I'm not sure if they sold out on
this Tuesday night but I know they were getting close last I checked the
door.
They came out and played, played hard
and they played a good long set, and lo the speaker stacks did rock to
and fro and the floor it did tremble with the weight of so many jumping
up and down. And Gogol Bordello did not dissapoint or not live up to my
expectations. In fact after 3 years of shooting at the Meridian I've seen
a lot of shows and Gogol Bordello is easily in the top 5 shows I've seen
there. I love their albums and I've seen some videos of Gogol live but
none of those come close to being there. Get a chance to see this band,
don't let it pass you by.
As for photography, well the lighting
was meh, and there was lots of obstacles to having a good shoot. I got
some ok stuff but nothing as good as I would have liked. Hopefully at
least some of it captures the feel and energy of what I was seeing when
I took them.
