Hair Ball at the Meridian

I wasn't really shooting this one for an assigment or anyone else. So I played around and saw what worked and what didn't. So these shots won't be "fashion show quality" but that's ok. I mean how often do you get to use an event like this to experiment with not pressure to get certain results

Art Car Ball 2005.

I shot this on the off chance the magazine wanted to an article on it.. But it's just a bit too "alternative" for that publication I guess.

LeBron James NBA All-Star Game Party at Meridian
The preeminent party for the NBA All-Star Game. The game will be held at Toyota Center, right across Highway 59 from Meridian, making Meridian the hottest spot for game related parties. The centerpiece will be the party hosted by Cleveland Cavalier star LeBron James, his first after turning 21. The massive blowout will be the place for the luminaries of sports and entertainment coming into Houston.

Yeah right, from what I can tell most of the "famous name" parties downtown have fallen flat on their face this weekend. Not sure if it they are just over hyped or overpriced. Either way Houston ain't out partying and what few stars are seem to be hanging out with each other in a few select places which aren't on the open to public type lists.
Maybe by contractual obligation the Lebron guy did actually show up around 1 AM after more than half the people who did show up gave up on anything remotely approaching the adverts actually coming to fruition and left. He came in sat down at the bar with his entourage got a drink and blew off the bartender when told "that'll be $X.XX" He sat there for, and I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here.. 10 minutes, leaned over to one of his bodyguards or whatever they were and said. "I'm bored, let's go back to ????" I couldn't quite make out the name of the place he said. Either way he was soon out the door, and all those people who mind boggling to me at least, had paid 300 bucks for the VIP area tickets to party with Lebron and other "luminaries" had gotten... well in my opinion.. screwed.

Not saying that it was necessarily Lebrons fault, hell I don't know what kind of arraingment the promoter Shaun Anthony and Lebron James had as far as attending and whatever. But it seems to me if you are going to lend your name to a party you might want to actually attend the damn thing for more than 10 minutes.. and maybe bring along some folk to make it noteworthy. Either way Thursday and Friday night were pretty much a waste of my time. So much so that I didn't bother going on saturday, based on precedence of the two previous nights and the fact that the allstar game is sunday so they probably wouldn't be out partying too late the night before anyway. I could be wrong. and history might show me missing the "party of the century" but I don't think so..

Note: I wasn't wrong.. They ended up cancelling the Saturday and Sunday party completely.

This is my notable picture from the event. I think it says it all.
